If upon launch of 3D, you get a plain message merely stating “Unexpected error, quitting” it may be simple to resolve.   Sometimes an update doesn’t finish registering until opened with administrator rights.  Try right-clicking the 3D icon and choosing to Run as Administrator.  If that opens the program, next close and reopen it again normally.  Problem solved!
